Timeline

  • We submitted our application to PC in mid-November 2010
  • Initial Interview mid-January 2011 and we were actually nominated that day for an October 2011 departure for French speaking Africa!
  • Received medical forms end of Janaury 2011
  • PC received our medical forms March 8th 2011 and our dental was qualified about a week later
  • The long wait for medical clearance-we knew since our departure would be no earlier than October 2011, we wouldn't hear anything until at least June 2011
  • Contact from our PC nurse the last week of June 2011 and we were happily surprised to be medically cleared only about 4-5 days later on June 29th, 2011.  Whew!  That means we filled all our forms out correctly-best news since the beginning of the process.
  • Contact from PC assistant July 1st, 2011 asking for updated resumes in preparation for contact from our placement officer.  And that is where we are today.  I will update the timeline as we move on.
  • We submitted our updated resumes July 4th weekend (how patriotic!) 2011 and are waiting to hear about talking to our placement officer
  • July 5th, 2011-we got an email that we can expect to hear from a Placement Officer in 4-6 weeks.  It seems like from the blogs that people hear sooner than that, so we will see.
  • September 1st, 2011 Antoine heard from his placement officer from the business desk that all business assignments are filled through March 2012 and the next window is April 2012-June 2012 but it is possible that some placements may not happen until September of 2012.  He responded that he is okay with the timeframe.
  • November 1st, 2011  Almost out of the blue we were offered a placement for Mexico starting on February 6th 2012!  We are invited to work in an interesting program focused on technology transfer.  We will be part of PCM-12 (the 12th year of the program in Mexico) and one of about 85 or so volunteers total in Mexico at any time.  So our full application to invitation time was just under a year-pretty much what Peace Corps told us to expect, but shorter than some of the folks I have read about, so we are happy about that!
  • November 4th We accepted our invitations to Mexico and look forward to our training starting in February in Querétaro
  • February 5th arrived in Washington DC for our first 2 day training before our departure to Mexico.  We were a small group of only seven in the technology transfer group.
  • February 7th arrival in Querétaro and the beginning of training.
  • April 19th We were officially sworn in as Peace Corps Volunteers to be serving in Guanajuato Mexico until April 19th 2014!  We had one of our group early terminate, so there were only 6 of us!
